Why cultivate peace/stillness?

It was in Pondicherry, many years ago, in the season when tropical rains and sometimes cyclones sweep down suddenly and bring devastation. At such times, doors and windows have to be barricaded with thick bamboo laths. That night, a cyclone broke out with torrents of rain, and Mother hastened toward Sri Aurobindo's room to help him shut his windows. He was seated at his table, writing (for years Sri Aurobindo spent twelve hours a day writing, from six in the evening till six in the morning, then eight hours walking up and down "for the yoga"). The windows were wide open, and not a drop of rain had come in. The peace that reigned in the room, recalls Mother, was so solid, so compact, that the cyclone COULD NOT enter. ~from SRI AUROBINDO or THE ADVENTURE OF CONSCIOUSNESS by Satprem

Bhaktifest

Up the stairs,
Trailing slightly to the right,
There's a soft cozy bed
still warm,
sheets zig-zagged with fresh body creases
from the night before.

Today's another one of those days, you see...
To step forward
off the outcropping,
glowing tones of beiges
and whites in the
determined Sun;
To step forward and
free-fall deeper
into the arms of
His rising currents of Bliss,
wings stretching knowingly
wide to glide
In,
through,
and around the
thermal waves of heat and sound
vibrating off this
brimming Heart of
mine...

Or...
walk back down the corridor
to the familiar anesthesia
of the old mistress
known as my bed.

Mimukshutva

My Heart fire ignites
more of Her cave
with hungry flames of
devotion to Lucidity...

I take this step
with you my
Dear One...
Off the cliff,
and into Life!

Grounded
As a man who loves,
a lover who heals,
a healer who writes,
writer who sings and performs,
a performer who paints,
a painter who fathers,
a father who's
at peace with himself
and all the world,
a peacemaker who's in
love with himself in
through, and as the Universe,
a Universal interpreter
who liberates,
a liberator who laughs...
each wave of laughter
revealing infinite space;
savoring the endless taste of
freedom as Love with every breath.

Infinite converging communities,
circles of Light seeded this day,
through my willingness and
communion within
the infinite Circle of my own Heart.

It is witnessed.

Exchange

There is only Love.
This I know.
And yet the
thousand and one
things shiny or bright
can still
cast their glamour,
steal drops of attention
until I return.

And returning is a
precarious teeter-totter
of a walk
at times,
coyotes chasing rabbits
across the sandy desert road
winding through Joshua Trees
and chapparal,
captivated by my senses
until a large rock
knocks against the steely wheels of my mind.

Infinite Grace
always extending
not one hand
but two,
nothing held back,
for Grace doesn't wait for
guaranteed returns before
opening the coffers wide.
So why should I?

Head Over Heals

As I fall
ever deeper
into the wildest abyss,
"I" discovers abyss
to be a particle of attention.

This pulsing photon
rooted, you see,
in the
sometime phantasmagorical
idea that something is missing.

With the pulse
of the photon,
goes the pulse
of my attention.

In

Out

In

Out...a pause

'What? Huh?
Where am I?'

Groggily wiping
the sleep of aeons
from the corners of
my seeing.

'Have I been
sleeping?' he poses...

Bones a little stiff,
moving about the room
in the splash of Sun
illuminating the Eastern corner,
this Lucidity continues,
unabated.

Falling,
Still Falling,
only now the thrill of
not grasping
replaces
heaving gasps
for air
and sure ground...

As I fall deeper
out of the Causal Delta,
I spy an intimately worn key
deftly inserted into the
determined lock on
the old cobwebbed doorway...

In only a few moments of focus,
the key pulses,
expands,
currents of breathing racing into
my lungs,
wind caressing the tops of my feet...

"OH...This....!!!

Self-Love,
the causeway,
tasting the ordinary ecstasy of this fullness;
this fullness where judging you is
the wildly raucous
punchline to the joke of separation.

There's Only One Place

You
who've scoured these
tinderboxes of sandy brown hills,
crackling parched crevices in your hands,
constellations of blisters
across the palms of your withered feet;
always the scent of hope
just when you'd give up
searching for some inkling of life,
just one little shoot
or sprout
would do...
The scorched inclines
consumed by the flames of your
tireless need for
something more than This...
sweeter,
brighter,
shinier,
a thin gossamer veil
to pretty you up,
and drape across
a faltering house of cards.

Give up losing this
house-rigged game
over and again.

Come home.
Come home.
Come home.

Wrap yourself in
the shawl of endless warmth.
Dye yourself in
the hue of this peace of mind
that won't fade in the Light of days on end.
Fidget with the hinge of the
lock on your Heart just
one more time,
and See.
Just See...
a dangling lock on
an already opened door.

You see,
there's intelligence in all this
seeming chaos.
Why would He dare attempt
locking anything so vast
as the infinity of Love
that Is your Heart?

So go on your not-so-merry chase
for something to hold you over,
until you wear yourself out
completely.
And as you heave and gasp
for one precious breath
my Dear One,
He can finally fill you with
His Truth;
You're already home
You're already home
For where else could you possibly go
when there's only
One place?

The Practice - Tonight!

We’re coming up on a Full Moon this Friday, followed two days later by Mercury going into Retrograde for 3 full weeks. It’s a great opportunity for lightening your load....purging things you no longer need, use, or that just feed on your energy without giving anything in exchange. It’s a time to become more clear about your past and how it’s brought you to this moment. It’s a time to become more grounded and clear about where you want to go next, and building up your lifeforce, and putting one foot in front of the other to carry you there...so we will gather together once again:

It’s time for the next round of The Practice...on Wed, September 2nd

We’re calling this evening THE PRACTICE, and it’s for ALL levels of experience with the Breath. It happens for now in the sanctity of my healing space in West Hollywood. Reserve your space as soon as you know you’ll be coming, as it fills up quickly...

In this workshop, there won’t be much talking. We’ll set some intention very quickly in the beginning, and then get right down to the business of the Breathwork; an ancient 3-part breathing meditation that takes you beyond the dream of the limited ego experience....into the space of GRACE, the space of KNOWING, the space of deep REJUVENATION.

This is designed to be a place to work deeply with the breath and build /strengthen the muscles for your home practice.

ARRIVE on-time or better yet, early. No one will be admitted after the breathwork begins to honor and support the safe space created for The Work.

When: Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009
Time: 7:30-9:00pm

Exchange: $40

Where: 1226 Havenhurst Dr. #9
(Havenhurst is 1 block West of Crescent Heights between Santa Monica Blvd and Fountain Ave)

Parking: It’s best to park at a meter on Santa Monica Blvd or in the West Hollywood City Lot just South of Santa Monica Blvd behind Out Of The Closet between Havenhurst and La Jolla. The City Lot is $1 per hour in quarters. Other meters in the area are free after 6pm.

RSVP: Due to size of the space, please RSVP to hold your place. If need be, we’ll start a waiting list. 24hrs cancellation by phone. (310) 922-4890

BRING: A folded blanket and/or yoga mat to lay on for the breathing meditation, water, and a smile!

SCOTT
